The Coosa Valley Medical Center is part of the thriving Health System, the state's largest health care system. The Coosa Valley Medical Center has been a source of healing and wholeness in Sylacauga since 1945. Formerly known as the Sylacauga Hospital, it was the only hospital allowed to remain open during World War II because the government saw a need for health care in the community. Coosa Valley Medical Center is also a large employer in the city with 560 employees.

It is a 148-bed acute care facility and includes a 75-bed long-term care facility. The medical center has a 24-hour physician staffed emergency room; a full range of women's services including obstetrics and gynecology; pediatrics; internal medicine; family practice; cardiology; general surgery; orthopedic surgery; urology; nuclear medicine and a full range of diagnostic services such as CT Scan, MRI, X-ray and laboratory.

Coosa Valley Medical Center is especially proud of its recently opened Ambulatory Care Center. This $11 million expansion tripled the size of the emergency room, enlarged and improved admitting facilities, and enhanced the outpatient pre-admission testing areas and operating areas.

Coosa Valley Regional Cancer Center provides cancer care close to home for the people of Talladega County and surrounding communities. This full-service cancer center utilizes state-of-the-art technology for both radiation and medical oncology treatments. It is a service of Southeast Cancer Network, a physician owned and operated network of cancer centers.

Cheaha Mental Health Center located in Sylacauga serves Clay, Coosa, Randolph and Talladega Counties. Its mission is to provide effective, quality services for persons whose lives are affected by mental illness, mental retardation or substance abuse. These services and programs include prevention, treatment, education and remediation, as well as follow up to assure maintenance of health and stability. These services and programs are provided in a cost-effective manner and include both residential and day services.

Other healthcare professionals, including dentists, optometrists, registered nurses and chiropractors provide additional services. Two nursing homes, dialysis centers, cancer treatment center and other treatment programs serve other healthcare needs of area residents.

Baptist Medical Center Citizens is a 122 bed, acute care hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. This modern facility offers the community a wide variety of programs and services and is staffed with approximately 320 employees. Some of the services include one-day surgery, a comprehensive diagnostic center, physical, occupational and speech therapy, SportsFirst Fitness and Wellness Center, cardiac rehabilitation, pain management and many more. From specialty services such as cardiology, orthopedics, and ophthalmology to family practice and internal medicine, Baptist Citizens offers a broad range of physician specialties. The residents of North Talladega County have access to emergency medicine 24-hours 7 days a week and the assurance that care is delivered by specialty trained physicians and nurses.

Additionally, healthcare is extended beyond the walls of Baptist Citizens by providing community outreach programs through health fairs, screenings, educational programs, support groups, and sponsorships. This facility recognizes and embraces the excellence for community health and delivers it close to home.

Cheaha Mental Health Center, a regional mental health facility, has a branch in Talladega.
